MCPc's Brian Kinne: A VAR's-Eye View Of Videoconferencing

How Has MCPc's Videoconferencing Strategy Evolved?

We have internally invested in Cisco. We love Cisco; its great relationship, it’s a great product. But if we look at the landscape of the industry, Cisco represents 40 percent to 45 percent of the industry, and so there was 50 percent to 55 percent of the industry we were not addressing. We could not have a conversation with anyone who was non-Cisco as it relates to video and telepresence.

So we engaged with Polycom. Polycom's market share is about 25 percent, so now we have an opportunity to talk to three-quarters of the industry. And we will continue that approach to build out our portfolio of products. So we are massaging, expanding and going deeper in terms of certification and sales and engineering training, and are hiring individuals that bring some of those certifications and expertise that's beyond or outside the Cisco realm.
