Lipman said that while she was interviewing executives in the workplace, male executives said they noticed that when they gave evaluations of employees, they went easier on women. Why? Because they didn't want them to cry, she said.

For example, a study Lipman referenced looked at interviews by male executives of both male and female job candidates. The study found that while women received many more positive comments than the men did, only 6 percent of the women were considered to be partnership material, while 15 percent of the men interviewed were.

In terms of women crying, females are wired biologically to cry more frequently than men, said Lipman. However, "when women do cry, it's because they are pissed off," she said.
