How Softchoice Battles A Tight Tech Skills Market

What's going on out there in the hunt for technical talent?

Recruiting can become a business of its own, which we know because there are lots of agencies out there in the marketplace. And the places that candidates go to – we know the tools that people use, like LinkedIn and different databases that they might go to -- like Indeed or CareerBuilder – to see what's going on out there. The reality is that people that are looking for work are generally looking for contract [work] because they like to be more self-employed and pick and choose the gigs they're going to work on. We see this in the technical space.

But also, the ones that are looking -- in [many] cases -- are ones you don’t want. I know that sounds terrible, but there's a reason they're not working. So, that leaves you with two things: It leaves you with the skills and the ability to find partnerships to go and find passive candidates; that is, people who are actually working at other companies, and finding ways to intrigue and attract them. Or, you decide to really double down on the network that you as an organization naturally have that may not have been tapped.
