Finally, as mobile device management proves to be a big market, more mobile vendors are investing in MDM in new and innovative ways, meaning that partners will be looking at more form factors and operating systems, such as iOS, Android and Windows.

In 2014, for example, Microsoft embedded MDM technology from its Intune products into Office 365, creating a new incentive for Microsoft customers with iOS, Android, and Windows Phone devices to stick with the Redmond, Wash.-based company for mobile security solutions.

"The category itself is evolving to meet the ability of various form factors with support across operating systems, and we're seeing more big players enter the game," Vrsic said. "Mobility is becoming the nerve center and these big boys want a piece of that pie. Legacy mobile vendors recognize that they need to play in that game. For partners, that means that differentiation and innovation for their solutions and services is important."
