Roughly 10 percent are unemployed and would take anything offered to them, Schmidtmann said, an additional 10 percent are employed but actively searching for a new job, while another 5 percent are intensely loyal to their current employer and wouldn't leave under virtually any circumstances.

That leaves about 75 percent of the working-age public with no resume out, but still persuadable. Roughly a third of those are thinking about moving on but don't yet have their job application materials together, Schmidtmann said, while the remaining two-thirds are happy in their current position but open to something else if the right offer came along.
