Solution Providers See More Opportunities In Ensuring IT Resiliency, Backup

In general, do you think businesses are adequately prepared from a resiliency and backup standpoint? (Part 1 of 2)

In general, I would say no. I think … most of them don’t have the right technology. Often their backup technology hasn’t kept up with their compute environment. For example, our backup services we sell … can provide on-site or cloud recovery without having to do a restore and find a temporary server to restore to. The backup device actually wakes up and becomes the server, or the cloud backup wakes up and becomes your temporary server. Those kinds of things, if you’re not using that, you're standing there with smoke coming out of the back of a server and a backup tape in your hand that you hope has the right backup from last time. What are you going to restore to? I think in a lot of cases [people say], "Oh yeah, we do a lot of backups every night," and someone takes the tape home occasionally. That’s really not 21st century protection.
