Industries That Got The Message: Federal Government, Pharmaceuticals

Two industries that could provide inspiration for businesses that want to tighten their grip around their software assets are government and pharmaceuticals, which were the two most wasteful industries last year but now hold two of the bottom three spots among the 16 industries represented in the 1E survey according to Keogh.

In 2015, more than half – 56 percent – of software in pharma was deemed wasteful. This year, that's been cut to 31 percent. Government, meanwhile, cut its software waste from 50 percent to 28 percent, the best among the 16 industries, Keogh said.

He attributes much of that to the federal MEGABYTE Act, which called for tighter management of software licenses.
