Biggest Offending Industries: Aviation, Education, Energy

While businesses in most industries reported waste in the range of 35 to 39 percent, the aviation and education verticals reported the highest percentage of software waste, with 47 percent each. Right behind them was energy, at 46 percent.

"I suppose you could say it's a call to action for those three industries, in particular, to get their act together," Keogh told IT Best Of Breed. The figure for aviation is "insane," he said.
Others at 40 percent or higher: services (44 percent), engineering (41 percent) and manufacturing (40 percent).
