Business units have buying power, and that means you need to pay attention to them as well as the folks in corporate IT.

Most software-as-a-service procurement lies with the corporate IT organization, and nine out of 10 times, business units keep IT in the loop on technology buying decisions, even if the business side is a primary driver, CompTIA said, adding "The challenge is finding ways to make this collaboration most effective."

CompTIA said most IT organizations drive the procurement of most SaaS applications, with the business side more apt to buy financial management and human resources management apps.
