IT Salaries Up, Skills Gap Persists, Survey Finds

Skills Gap Is Here And Not Going Away

More than two-thirds of IT decision-makers reported a gap between skill levels and knowledge needed to meet goals, Global Knowledge found. The top reason? Forty-three percent said their companies were not investing enough to develop the necessary skills; 36 percent cited difficulty finding people with the skills they need, and 33 percent stated that they couldn't meet candidates' salary demands.

Meanwhile, 61 percent cited increased stress on employees as the top impact of the skills gap. Other casualties? Lower likelihood of meeting quality objectives; delays in product and service development and in hardware and software deployment; and lost revenue.

The skills gap is the "biggest single highlight that we see continuing," Global Knowledge's Dolan said.
