CIOs Turning to Service Delivery As Purchasing Power Dwindles

Moving Toward Strategy And Services

Progress on shifting CIOs from day-to-day technology management to long-term strategy remains slow, though the picture has improved over the past year.

The number of CIOs spending more than half their time on day-to-day technology management has fallen over the past year from 79 percent to 73 percent, while the number devoting more than 80 percent of their time to technology management has fallen from 33 percent to 30 percent.

In contrast, 84 percent of CIOs indicated they would like to spend at least half their time on strategic initiatives, up from 74 percent a year ago.

CIOs said they would like to spend more time on business enablement, cloud services and mobile enterprise strategy.
