Obviously we've come a long way since the days of hierarchical organizations. How important is that in an organization such as yours where everybody feels invested?

I think it's critical. I think the alignment and interest with your employees [and] with your corporate goals are absolutely critical to your success, and I'm often quoted telling my employees that I view myself as competing for my employees as well as my customers. They have choices, and in today's marketplace, transparency is key. You can go to websites like Glassdoor … and if you're not treating people well, everybody knows it.

When they do well for themselves, it's very powerful for us.
