How To Tame Latency, The Silent Cloud Killer

An Often Unexpected Hurdle

Organizations in every industry are planning migrations of IT infrastructure to the public cloud. But many of those cloud projects will stall, according to Rubin, because of a hurdle they weren’t expecting: network latency.

The response time in reaching a cloud provider is an essential component for success when deploying high-performance business applications in the cloud and leveraging remote cloud storage, she said.

“Many organizations do not understand the impact that latency has on their applications as they attempt to migrate them to the cloud,” said Tim Vogel, CEO of Xtium, a managed cloud services provider based outside Philadelphia.

“Legacy interactive applications that performed well when running in the same location as the user base can seem sluggish or slow to users once they’re running in the cloud,” Vogel said.
