The market for business intelligence and analytics has changed to a point where midmarket companies can dip their toes in the water and take advantage of what those tools have to offer, Gartner believes.

In his presentation at MES, Gartner analyst Kurt Schlegel said there are several capabilities those organizations can adopt, such as classification and visual data discovery.

Baltzell of Kansas City commercial printer Henry Wurst Inc., told ITBestOfBreed that the cloud has helped disrupt the analytics market and helped reduce the costs, a critical factor for midmarket companies.

What solution providers can do: Listen to representatives at client companies about what they want to accomplish through analytics, then look for cloud-based solutions that can make the cost of entry – if it's their first foray into analytics - more palatable.
