Six Ways Solution Providers Can Help Midmarket Firms

The Case For Hyper-Convergence

The emergence of hyper-converged infrastructure has been enough of a story to warrant a session of its own at MES. And its presence was evident on the show floor, with representatives from hyper-convergence players Nutanix and HPE SimpliVity.

Gartner believes hyper-convergence "strongly" appeals as a data center option to businesses with limited resources. It predicts that, by 2020, enterprises will reduce their total cost of ownership in their infrastructure by at least 30 percent through the implementation of new technologies and deployment methods, such as hyper-convergence. Further, the research firm believes that 70 percent of hyper-converged deployments in data centers will deliver on-premises cloud capabilities or be connected to the public cloud by 2020.

In a survey of attendees at last year's MES conferences, a substantial minority - 41 percent - said they were at least testing a hyper-convergence deployment, with about 30 percent already having one.
