Millennials, meanwhile, appear to want to volunteer more yet need to better understand the impact they're making through volunteer activities. Three of every four millennials – 75 percent -- said they would volunteer more often if they had a better understanding of how it helps, but that's way ahead of all survey respondents, with 61 percent saying they would volunteer more often if they understood the benefits.

Deloitte suggests that helping employees, especially millennials, better understand how their efforts benefit their communities can encourage more volunteering.
