For example, solution providers need to ask what other companies candidates are interviewing with, and where they are in the hiring process with those firms, said Russell. This eliminates candidates who are at the tail end of interviewing with other companies and may have another job offer lined up.

CEOs must also confirm candidates’ compensation requirements and how they align with their own budgets, and get a feel for how the candidates’ commutes would be. If it's more than an hour, said Russell, that's a warning sign and could lead to those employees leaving the job earlier than desired.
