Spear phishing is one of the latest forms of targeted attack, and the email scam is becoming increasingly prevalent.

Nearly 70 percent of IT professionals say they experience weekly spear-phishing attacks, and those emails, targeting specific people and containing malicious links, are often effective in infiltrating an organization’s network, according to Mimecast.

Stopping those kinds of advanced threats takes a sophisticated email gateway with targeted threat protection technology that scans webpages when links are clicked in email to prevent them from leading to compromised sites, Bauer says.
