Survey: Young Adults Unaware Of, Unprepared For Cybersecurity Careers

Lack Of Awareness

Most of those surveyed don’t know what goes into a cybersecurity job.

Only 47 percent of men said they’re aware of the typical range of responsibilities and job tasks involved in the cyber profession. That was much higher compared with women (33 percent).
And schools apparently don’t help. Sixty-two percent of men and 75 percent of women said no secondary or high school computer classes offered the skills to help then pursue careers in cybersecurity. And in the United States, 67 percent of men and 77 percent of women said no high school or secondary school teacher, guidance or career counselor ever mentioned the idea of a cybersecurity career.
