IoT Markets Aren't Independent

App developers aren't held down by independent verticals such as retail, medical, or smart cities. Developers are now able to cross boundaries through IoT and are more likely to target two or more verticals.

"There is a big overlap between IoT developers active in retail and medical," said the VisionMobile report. "Smart home, connected car and smart city form a cluster. Developers active in one area are likely to be active in the others as well."

Solution providers can capitalize on this opportunity of breaking down vertical boundaries with IoT, which is why app developers are shying away from wearables due to it being one of the most stand-alone IoT verticals.
