IoT Breaks Out Of The Gate With These 5 Big Moves

AT&T Looks To Help ‘Smart Cities’

The telecommunications giant said this week it’s building a framework for smart cities by forming new alliances with the likes of Cisco, Deloitte, Ericsson, GE, IBM, Intel and Qualcomm to build more connected communities.

The framework is focusing on solving problems with IoT solutions in such areas as infrastructure, transportation and public safety. One of AT&T bullish goals is to allow cities to remotely monitor the conditions of roads, bridges, buildings and parks.

Dallas-based AT&T also revealed a new set of IoT developer tools and is working with Salesforce to connect IoT data from AT&T into Salesforce platforms. The telecom giant says it’s developing a new digital dashboard, Smart City Network Operation Center, which gives cities a high-level look into their communities’ conditions.
