2016 looks as if it could be the breakout year for the Internet of Things (IoT) as giant companies like AT&T and Intel have already announced they will invest more in the space.

Research firm Gartner says 6.4 billion connected "things" will be used this year, up 30 percent from 2015. And IoT services spending will rise to $235 billion in 2016, an increase of 22 percent over 2015, according to Gartner. Just one week into the year, companies of all sizes have already unveiled new partnerships, technologies and strategies.
