Citizen electronic identification is another technology governments should consider, Gartner says. Governments manage this technology to provide a secure domain and allow citizens to access core resources, such as disability-related services and forms for citizens, or Medicare-related resources.

When governments become more digitized and in-person verification methods become more outdated for offering resources and services to citizens, the idea of citizen electronic identification needs to be more reliable, so governments should require online authentication and identity proofing, according to Gartner.

Solution providers, for their part, can play an important role in walking governments through the process of implementing a more reliable citizen electronic ID, such as offering consultative services or Internet of Things-based security services.
