Software-Defined Networking

Software-defined network (SDN) brings immense benefits around flexibility and control, but it also brings new risks, a talk by Changhoon Yoon and Seungsoo Lee said. By attacking each layer of SDN, including the control plane, control channel and data plane, the Kaist Ph.D. students and researchers demonstrated their ability to penetrate different commonly used SDN implementations. These types of attacks would most likely affect a network's availability or confidentiality, they said. However, pen testing and security extensions, such as Security-Mode ONOS, can help businesses make sure they are embracing SDN in a more secure way, they said.
