As the years have gone by, the number of incidents … or the number of security advisories … has actually gone down. … What it means is that just because [a network is] old doesn't mean it's necessarily obsolete.

But because of the maturity of those assets, the vendors were obviously patching them and securing them. The fact is that as the equipment aged, it actually got more secure.
