Despite the diffusion of IT oversight throughout the enterprise in recent years, the chief information officer is most likely to be on point to drive cloud migrations, the survey found. Seventy-two percent of respondents identified the CIO as the C-suite executive most intensely advocating and driving the shift of IT resources. 

"I think it took the CIO a little bit of time to sort of work around some of the idiosyncrasies and the complexities" of cloud, said Steve Nunn, vice president of cloud and infrastructure services for Unisys – No. 18 on CRN's Solution Provider 500 list. "Previously [CIOs] had been driven (by) the financial models and … were reluctant (to champion cloud) because they could see the complexities at that time and the uncertainties. … Now, there are real financial and business benefits."
