DDoS Attacks Are Rising Too

In 2016, Dimension Data saw a doubling of distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, from 3 percent of all attacks in 2015, to 6 percent last year. Meanwhile, DDoS had a larger presence on the other side of the world, accounting for over 16 percent of all attacks from Asia, and 23 percent of all attacks from Australia.

Dimension Data cited as a culprit the growth of Internet of Things devices that lack sufficient security controls. But it also pointed out that non-secure default configurations, weak passwords, and a lack of patch management and vendor accountability continue to be cause for concern.
