"I would honestly say that that's probably the biggest component to it – I come from a place where communication in all of this is the biggest thing," Ledford said.
There are many ways to allow employees to get involved, Ledford said. One way is to have leaders meet with their departments before leadership strategy meetings to discuss what risks they are seeing in the business. Companies can also create an open platform, such as a dedicated email address, to submit compliance or risk issues. Of course, training is also key, Ledford said, to help employees recognize what is a risk or compliance issue.
