Before you move toward adopting the cloud and coming up with a business model based around it, it is imperative to understand what the cloud is and what it can do for you. If you don’t know the advantages of having a successful cloud strategy incorporated into your business, then you won’t fully understand what you’re trying to do or why.

"Leverage cloud technology because it meets a business goal or a business plan," Northington said. "Not just leveraging cloud technology because it sounds cool or because it sounds like the current thing to do. Do it because it has a business reason to be done. When you are stepping into a new cloud application, you are stepping into one that is fully industrialized that can meet a business outcome that you need in the way of increased sales or better customer attention or better collaboration of teams. It leads to an increased level of service at a lower cost."
