With the continued migration to the cloud comes a need for tighter cloud security, especially with widespread concerns of exposing sensitive data. That alone may be enough to nudge the two sides to work with each other and communicate more effectively.

Although IT departments have been trying to rein in shadow IT, Intel said in a study released in April, 52 percent of the lines of business still expect IT to secure the unauthorized cloud services that they buy. And that causes concern within IT departments when it comes to security, concluded Intel, which cited a study conducted last year by the private nonprofit SANS Institute. That study found that 38 percent of nearly 500 IT professionals are concerned about the potential misuse of cloud resources.
