When Verdasys changed its name to Digital Guardian in 2014, the mission for the Waltham, Mass.-based provider of security solutions had already made the strategic shift from helping clients combat internal threats within their infrastructures to adding expertise to respond to growing hacker attacks.
But providing ubiquitous data protection, “the core of our vision didn’t change,” said Connie Stack, Digital Guardian’s chief marketing officer.
Verdasys had been effective at handling internal security threats only – but more business attention had moved to the “outside threat,” or hackers.
“If you can’t be self-aware as a company, and not recognize that change is required, you’re going to be in trouble,” Stack said. “You have to take a critical eye to your own business.”
And you need data to do that, such as measuring performance against established goals and criteria, she added.
