While it may seem counterintuitive, a starting goal of stopping all insider threats is too broad and a little unrealistic, Pat Reidy, vice president of cyber security at CSC, said. Reidy said he has seen many clients' programs halted or failed because of overreaching goals and expectations. Instead, he suggested meeting with key stakeholders such as head of sales, marketing and research to talk about key areas and intellectual property to protect and drive a laser focus on those areas.

"You don’t stop this. You have to think about this more like a chronic disease to be managed," Reidy said.
