Women need to take a "long view" of their career and be mindful of what it is that they want, both personally and professionally, in order to succeed, according to Racioppi.

"It's important to ask what you want five to 10 years down the road, and what do I need to do to be effective in that role," said Racioppi. "You need to think about a long-term career plan and evaluate where you've been and how those experiences have prepared you and formed you as a leader. It's important to be honest with yourself."
