Nine Security Threats Posed By Connected Devices

There Is Really No Outside To Your Network Anymore

Potter said IoT really erases the perimeter to a network, making it much harder for businesses and solution providers to control who has access to data at a particular time or place.

The threats have been amplified by the rise of automated and machine-based collaborations as well as remote data centers due to companies outsourcing their entire network and IT staff, said Potter, noting that Target's core systems weren't compromised during the December 2013 data breach.

Most frighteningly, Potter said hackers in Israel have figured out how to hack into an air gap systems by monitoring the sensors for deviations in heat.

"Even an unconnected box isn't secure anymore," Potter said.
