Smart Devices Have Caused Secure Walls to Topple

The rapid embrace of the Internet of Things (IoT) has created security threats around visibility, knowledge of network activity and knowledge around the devices themselves.

Davitt Potter, a security engineering manager for Centennial, Colo.-based Arrow Electronics, said unseen attacks pose the greatest danger to end users and their solution provider partners. Potter led a breakout session at Arrow's Internet of Things Immersions in Boston in late March.

Potter urged businesses to design the entire infrastructure with security in mind, put standard policies and procedures in place and ensure a strategy is in place in the event of a breach.
