Who Do CEOs Work With For Long-Term Planning?

According to the survey, CFOs are the primary choice of partner for CEOs in collaborating strategic planning. Almost 40 percent of respondents named the CFO as either the first, second or third choice as a CEO partner in long-term collaboration.

The top choice behind the CFO was the chief strategy officer, as 27 percent of respondents picked this position to partner with the CEO, and 26 percent picked the board of directors.

Interestingly, the CIO as an option for a CEO partner was only named first, second or third choice by 17 percent of respondents. Meanwhile, the survey found that over-performing organizations tended to increase the contribution of more technical roles like CIO, CTO, and chief digital officer.
