It wasn’t all that long ago when an information security strategy centered on firewalls and anti-virus software. But that’s so last decade.

Security has become more complicated, especially with the rise of ransomware, cyber threats from just about anywhere in the world, and the risks that can come with “bring your own device” policies.

So today, effective security requires a combination of products, processes and skills, and solution providers that blend all three will be well positioned to gain new security business, according to a report released last week by CompTIA, the nonprofit association for the IT industry.

"Channel partners, MSPs and managed security services providers with the right expertise and resources will be well positioned to engage their customers and prospects in an ongoing conversation about where security fits in to their needs and goals," Seth Robinson, senior director of technology analysis for CompTIA, said in a statement.
