Half of the IT professionals surveyed said their corporate applications don't use automated deprovisioning, even though the practice could be a time saver. Meanwhile, 70 percent of IT professionals said it takes them up to an hour to de-provision all of a former employee's corporate application accounts.

Dominic Grillo, president of solution provider Atrion Communications, of Branchburg, N.J., pointed to insufficient technology budgets as a cause.

"So many IT organizations now are running so lean, where their headcount is far less than it had been in the past, and the current staff is being asked to take on an ever-increasing load," he said in an email to ITBestOfBreed. "Combine that with a lack of well-qualified IT professionals in the available resource pool, and it’s not surprising."
