In California, a recent legal case regarding employers’ responsibility to reimburse some costs BYOD raised questions in public and private sector organizations about the wisdom of BYOD. In addition to question about who owns the data, the case brings attention to the startling costs associated with BYOD. A report by the Aberdeen Group found that an organization with a BYOD policy and 1,000 devices to support spends an additional $170,000 per year. By keeping devices in-house and using the support of an IT solution provider, enterprises can manage the technology more efficiently and reduce costs by saving on employee reimbursement, replacing lost or broken personal devices or adjusting budgets for fluctuating data rates by telecom providers.
