Where do you see Splunk playing a role in the Internet of Things market?

Many of our customers have already applied Splunk to solve challenging IoT problems. They’ve embedded our forwarders deep into their machines and have used the Splunk platform to collect and analyze machine data at scale.
As a company, how do we take these use-cases to the masses? Ubiquitous and embedded Forwarders, vertical applications, and thoughtful partnerships with sensor, hardware, and commercial equipment manufacturers will quickly deliver higher-value insights to the fingertips of our customers.

Where can you bring the most growth for Splunk?

Boardrooms of Global 1000 companies are worried about two things: business risk, -- reputational risk, operational risk, cyber threats, etc. – and being blindsided by a disrupter.

For example, financial services companies are working hard to meet regulatory requirements, building advanced security operational intelligence capabilities, and yet at the same time are being disrupted by emerging cloud-first FinTech players. Healthcare, oil and gas, and other sectors are similar – regulatory changes, security threats and disruptors that are rapidly taking market share.

Another interesting trend is that "shadow IT" is not necessarily viewed as a bad thing anymore. Budget cuts are causing innovation to come from the shadows, and organizations are seeking ways to work smarter – eliminating waste in their processes and redirecting the savings to fund innovation, while keeping their budgets flat.

Operational intelligence – security, IT, and commercial – are critical capabilities that will help the boardroom operate at market speed. These macro-level market conditions, combined with our experience across many verticals, present a tremendous opportunity for Splunk.

How important is security for Splunk in 2015?

Cyber security is a board-level discussion at enterprises, and will remain top-of-mind for the boards of every company for the foreseeable future. This topic is really important, because the threat is very real. Moreover, as IoT becomes mainstream, the attack surface increases significantly.
