A Rare Inside Look At How Google Pioneered Warehouse-scale Computing

Google Offers A Rare Video Tour

Google opened its Cloud Platform Live event in San Francisco earlier this month by showing its partner community something few have ever seen.
Urs Holzle, SVP of technical infrastructure, appeared on a video screen, telling Google's technology and channel partners that in his more than 15 years at Google, he's seen the company pioneer warehouse-scale computing. The company started with a few servers in a colocation facility and now operates some of the largest data centers in the world, he said.
"Now for security reasons we can't really offer tours of our data centers, but we've made an exception for you today," Holzle said.
"So we're going to show you an inside look at our facilities and the people who keep them running."
