How You Can Get Kids Excited About IT

Balaji Ganapathy, head of workforce effectiveness for Mumbai- and New York-based Tata Consultancy Services, spoke with CRN's Samantha Allen recently about the challenges facing the science, technology, engineering and math field. TCS offers its goIT program to get K-12 students interested in the industry, but finding ways to get kids engaged can be tough. According to a TCS study, 17 percent of 12th graders were found to be interested or proficient in STEM, but only one out of 10 schools in the U.S. offer computer science classes. Here are some ways to encourage students to go into the field. With shortfalls in data scientist and analyst positions projected for the near future, Ganapathy hopes these suggestions could spark change for the industry.
