Top Security Concerns? Malware And Phishing

Phishing attacks and new forms of malware are the top external security threats on the minds of IT decision makers in the U.S., the survey found. Each was cited by 49 percent of respondents (multiple answers were allowed). Right behind that? Distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks, cited by 41 percent of IT decision makers, and mobile attacks, cited by 40 percent. Ransomware attacks ranked fifth, cited by 31 percent.

In its own report earlier this year, Cisco cited a handful of external threats trying to infiltrate vulnerable infrastructures. The threats include: potentially unwanted applications (PUAs), such as malicious browser extensions; trojans; links to web spam and ad fraud; browser-specific vulnerabilities; and browser redirects, clickjacking, and other methods used to direct users to malicious web content.
