Health care was one of the hardest-hit verticals in 2015 when it came to data breaches. Protected health information - which includes personal data, medical insurance information, Social Security numbers, beneficiary data, financial information, medical device numbers, IP addresses, biometric data and medical records - remains a valuable target for hackers. As an offshoot of its annual Data Breach Investigations Report (DBIR), Verizon has launched its inaugural 2015 Protected Health Information (PHI) Data Breach Report to dig into where PHI breaches are occurring and what’s causing them.
