Survey Of CIOs Identifies Skills Shortage, Risk Management Trends

CIO magazine issued its annual survey in January, revealing a significant IT skills shortage.

Organizations will pay a premium to attract and retain data scientists capable of managing big data analytics and business intelligence projects, security and risk management professionals and software developers.

More than half of those surveyed (56 percent) said they are having trouble finding qualified IT professionals that meet the job requirements. The survey also uncovered a significant increase in the need for security professionals to find ways to better protect intellectual property and customer data.

CIOs say business and operational requirements need to be balanced with risk reduction measures that improve outdated and complex processes, identify and correct configuration issues and vulnerabilities and add new threat detection and security analytics capabilities.
