From an acquisition within the channel to an announcement of layoff plans from a major vendor, here's a look at five news stories of interest to the channel from the week of Oct. 10-14, focusing on key numbers within those stories.

30 – Number of employees at GlobalServe International, which solution provider giant Connection (formerly PC Connection) acquired in a deal announced last week. The deal will make it easier for U.S.-based multinational firms to support the technology needs of their offshore divisions, according to Connection, based in Merrimack, N.H. Connection CEO Tim McGrath said Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey-based GlobalServe could be a good fit for roughly 40 percent of Connection's customers.

$3.5 millionInvestor funding secured by partner-facing Workspace-as-a-Service vendor Itopia. The company, based in Miami, plans to use the money to expand its channel development teams, increase partner support programs, boost educational resources and training, and expand its engineering efforts to improve its cloud offering and grow its channel operations.

85 – Percentage of solution providers surveyed by CRN that said they make money from Internet of Things solutions. But 31 percent – the highest group in the survey – said that IoT accounts for less than 5 percent of revenue.

$200 million to $300 million – Estimated savings HP Inc. foresees after the vendor announced plans to cut up to 4,000 jobs across multiple divisions in the next three years as part of a restructuring plan. The company disclosed its plans in a public filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. The plan comes as the company struggles with a sluggish demand for PCs and printers.

7.5 percent – Approximate drop in forecasted third-quarter billings for Fortinet from the security vendor's previous guidance. The Sunnyvale, Calif.-based company said it now expects billings to land between $343 million and $348 million, down from a range of $372 million to $376 million. It also lowered its sales range to between $311 million and $316 million, down from between $319 million and $324 million.
