Last Week's News, By The Numbers

Here's a look at five news stories of interest to the channel from last week, focusing on key numbers within those stories.

100 – Number of Internet of Things partners Dell hopes to have lined up in its IoT unit, about double its current IoT partner roster. Next week, Dell expects to turn on services for the first systems integrators working with the unit. “Through those relationships in the midmarket, we can build customization” for customers in “a market of niches," Jason Shepherd, Dell's director of IoT partnerships and strategy, told CRN.

$11.9 million – Fiscal 2016 third-quarter revenue for HP Inc., down 4 percent over the same quarter last year. Despite the drop, CEO Dion Weisler cited "solid progress" for the vendor as it continued to reverse revenue declines that have haunted it for several quarters. HP has been facing pressure from weak PC and printer markets.

$23 million – Approximate amount of additional credit that D&H Distributing will extend to nearly 850 reseller partners as it aims to spur continued growth for its channel as a broadening of services offered by solution providers leads to more product sales.

39.3 percent – Year-over-year drop in net income for Tech Data in its fiscal 2017 second quarter. Bob Dutkowsky, the distributor's CEO, blamed spending delays around mobile devices and non-essential data products, as well as eroding margins because of increased competitiveness. Net income for the quarter was $76.4 million on revenue of $6.35 billion.

$4.3 billion – Intended purchase price for cloud provider Rackspace Hosting, which will be taken private by its new owners: a group of investors led by Apollo Global Management. Rackspace, based in San Antonio, pioneered the OpenStack open-source cloud operating system. It had struggled in recent years to keep up with hyper-scale competitors like Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure. Rackspace's partners told CRN that taking the company private will help the company.
