The IT workforce is a hot topic. Anywhere you go, you'll hear top executives from across the industry say they struggle to attract and retain talent from what seems to be a shrinking pool of candidates while also confronting turnover in their own organizations.

So it's safe to say demand for IT professionals is high in general. But some skills are more in-demand than others, and the folks at Computerworld recently surveyed industry folks to find out which will be most sought after in the coming year.

The survey was highlighted in a blog recently by Mary K. Pratt, who discusses which skills are expected to see the greatest demand and why. Tops on the list are programming and app development, as well as project management.

That may not be surprising, but it's interesting to note the relatively large proportion of survey respondents who said they plan to hire across all the skills represented here.
