How You Can Hire And Build Your Team With Diversity In Mind

Two veterans of the technology industry say companies need to find new ways to not just recruit new talent with diversity in mind – they need to keep them too.

While tech giants have made progress toward building more diverse work forces, some women in the industry believe companies are not paying enough attention to developing and retaining the people they hire, according to this story posted earlier today to CRN that focused on a panel discussion.

The discussion took place earlier this month at the Android Developer Conference in Boston.

“Finding new ways to get new talent is already a focus, so it’s easy to focus on diversity in that aspect,” said Christine Chapman, an engineer who volunteers at Girl Develop It, a national nonprofit organization that aids girls and women who want to learn more about web and software development. “But I think a lot less people are working on actual initiatives, both looking at their retention, and noticing the issues there and actually tackling those issues.”
