Internet of Things specialist CytexOne is diving head first into the hospitality industry by forming its own CytexOne Hospitality full-service division to capitalize on opportunities emerging in the IoT market.

CytexOne, which been working in IoT for over a decade, says the new division provides integrated platforms and infrastructure to hotels around the globe while delivering "high-performance" IoT solutions for hospitality organizations, according to CEO Dan Levine. Gartner research says the IoT revolution is waiting to happen with 25 billion Internet connected things expected to create a $2 trillion economic opportunity by 2020. Levine explains why the hospitality division is hot, how VARs can generate recurring revenue streams and why CytexOne is "better" than the larger IoT players like Cisco and IBM.

In the hospitality sector, can you give me three examples on how solution providers/VARs can generate recurring revenue based on IoT services?

There is a strong opportunity for solution providers and integrators in this burgeoning sector. Solution providers will benefit from ongoing remote monitoring and system maintenance. Providers can also resell consumables, tablets, subscription content, updates thereto, and additional media to drive traffic to resort-wide amenities and services as well as a geographic area's adjacent services.

Lastly, the most industrious of us can aggregate advertisers and direct marketers and sell direct target communications to hotel guests who opt in and designate personal preferences.

Why is the hospitality industry such a hot IoT sector?

The entire sector is the perfect environment to show what IoT and connected things can do to enhance daily life.

The hospitality sector is the perfect forum for CytexOne to showcase carefully curated and well deployed IoT devices which will decrease operating costs by, for example, by managing HVAC consumption and maintenance. The hospitality sector is also the perfect platform to showcase how IoT brings a resort or hotel guest instant access to hotel services, including in-room amenities like customized TV and other media content. A guest will engage through her familiar mobile phone to access services or even control the room's TV, HVAC, order room services, outside deliveries, etc.
